Danube cycle route stage 7 north bank: Tulln - Vienna/Nordbrücke

Explore the art and garden city of Tulln on a historical city tour: the tour takes you to the late Baroque Minorite Church and through the Tulln of the ancient Romans. In the Tulln City Museum, which brings together the Tulln Roman Museum, the documentation on the imperial convent and the Virtulleum, you will learn even more about the time when the city was still called Comagena. Visits to the Egon Schiele Museum, the Egon Schiele Birthplace or a walk along the Egon Schiele Theme Trail or through DIE GARTEN TULLN (show gardens, treetop path, water park) require a little more time.

You then cycle along the extensive Stockerauer Au towards Vienna. At the Greifenstein power station, the cycle tour can be interrupted for a visit to the nearby festival town of Stockerau - for example to climb the church tower there, the highest in Lower Austria. The castles of Greifenstein, on the far bank of the Danube, and Kreuzenstein, initially visible in the distance, get closer and closer. Soon after passing the Greifenstein power station, you reach the "Pied Piper town" of Korneuburg.

It is said that a Pied Piper who had lost his wages once abducted the town's children here. The Pied Piper Fountain in front of the neo-Gothic town hall is a reminder of this legend. The main square, lined with patrician houses, is dominated by the massive medieval town tower. After a look at the Augustinian Church, which is adorned with a ceiling fresco by Franz Anton Maulbertsch, you leave this city - and soon enter the catchment area of the metropolis of Vienna.

When you finally cross over to the Danube Island, you are finally on Viennese soil. The 21-kilometre-long "island" was created between 1972 and 1988 as part of the metropolis' flood protection and as a local recreation area. Which is why you will pass inviting beaches, playgrounds and barbecue areas on the last few meters to the Nordbrücke stage destination.
