The tour from Gföhl to Senftenberg is particularly worthwhile for sporty hikers. On this route, romantic natural scenery and imposing landmarks are explored in a dynamic way. At the starting point of the hike, it is worth making a first stop at the baroque parish church of St. Andrew. The route then continues along tranquil forest paths over the Kühberg past imposing rock formations into the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German). The "Heimliches Gericht" rock pulpit is particularly worth a stop. Via the villages of Untermeisling and Obermeisling, the stage leads directly to the final destination of Senftenberg. At the end of the tour, we recommend a trip to the landmark of the wine town, the ruins of Senftenberg Castle. The fantastic view from the ruins over the picturesque Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German) is the perfect way to round off a hiking route worth seeing.

    Author’s recommendation

High above the village towers the Senftenberg castle ruins in the Kremstal. It is the landmark of the idyllic wine village of the same name and offers a wonderful view of the wine terraces where the typical primary rock Riesling grows. There is much to explore at the castle ruins, and many stories revolve around the centuries-old structure.

From the main square, head south through Kirchengasse, Kühlberggasse to Kleinkühnberggasse, which we then follow uphill. Past the playground, the end of the settlement is soon reached, a short stretch still on Feldstraße and we are already in the shady forest. Mostly through the forest, we reach Untermeisling. Before that, it is recommended to take a detour to the viewpoint in front of Kühlberg. From Untermeisling to Obermeisling, we have to walk on the state road. From Obermeisling, “peace returns”. For hours, it goes through the forest, over the beautiful rocky pulpit “Secret Court” until we reach the Kremstal. Through the settlement area, we reach the Nuhr health center and shortly thereafter the municipal office.
