The local walk starts directly at Marchegg Castle, where in the first audio story “Marchegg Castle – royal residence and stork paradise” you can immediately learn a lot of interesting facts about the castle and its former inhabitants. Then continue towards Wienerstraße, the main local road B49, which you cross. A directional arrow diagonally across points the way into the floodplain forest. Follow this path straight ahead. After a short stretch through a small forest, the path turns left. There you take a stop and listen to the second audio story “The disloyal steward of the prince”. Then follow the path further to the main road B49 and cross it. Continue straight ahead until a directional arrow points left to the town wall. Before you enter the narrow path, you learn some fascinating details in the audio story “Of towers, walls, and goose pastures” with a view of the nearby Powder Tower. Now turn left onto the path and walk along the town wall past a pond to the Ungar Gate. Here a directional arrow shows the right way straight ahead. Continue until you reach the customs memorial “The Eagle” directly on the March river. There awaits the fourth audio story “Border river March – from Iron Curtain to Green Belt”. The directional arrow indicates the further path, which leads along the March and later along the Mühlbach stream back to Marchegg Castle. Arriving at the back of the castle, listen to the last audio story “Natural jewel Marchauen”. Now it is only a few steps back to the starting point.
